Sign the Petition Now to Say No to Fracking and Support Renewable Energy in New Brunswick!

Our Premier is considering plans to authorize new fracking projects in our province, despite its harmful impact on our water, air, and land and clear opposition from First nations. We must act now and prioritize green energy solutions to protect our planet and public health.

"Despite what the Premier says, pursuing fracking and tackling the climate crisis are fundamentally at odds with each other. It is wrong-headed and embarrassing that he just won't move on from his beloved fossil fuels - it's time to let it go!" says Megan Mitton, Deputy Leader and Green MLA for Memramcook-Tantramar.

Adding your name to this campaigns means you agree to stand with us to ban fracking for good.

Please sign the NB Greens petition and urge our government to prioritize green energy solutions.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a process used to extract natural gas or oil from shale rock formations deep underground.  There are compelling reasons to ban the practice and instead prioritize green energy solutions.

  1. Fracking can contaminate local water supplies and harm human health through the injection of millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals into the ground at high pressure.
  2. The process of extracting natural gas through fracking releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to climate change.
  3. Fracking can also lead to increased air pollution, including smog and particulate matter, which can harm respiratory health and contribute to a range of other health problems.
  4. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), we must stop any new extraction projects for fossil fuels, including natural gas, if we are to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and avoid catastrophic climate change.

By taking this pledge, you are joining a provincial climate movement to call on Higgs to ban fracking and prioritize green energy solutions. We must protect our planet, promote public health, grow our economy, and build a sustainable energy future for generations to come.
